My daughter Annette inherited all the artistic genes in the family! She is a great photographer, creative writer and all around artist. So a few years ago when she asked to paint one wall in the play room with chalkboard paint, I knew I had to say yes. I was actually looking forward to the chalk creations and quotes that I knew would make it on that larger than life canvas!
So one afternoon we headed out to the paint store and picked up a gallon of chalk paint, rollers and a few other supplies. As soon as we got home, she laid out her supplies and prepped the room. By the next day the once plain wall was now a 10 by 12 foot canvas filled with possibilities. A true dream come true for a kid like mine!
What I didn’t know at the time was that you can make chalkboard paint in ANY color you want, so if a black or green wall is not your thing, it’s no longer a limiting factor. I stumbled on this awesome pin with step-by-step instructions on how to make your own chalkboard paint recipe.

I will definitely keep this DIY tutorial in mind for the future! Even though my daughter is about to set off to college, I have a feeling I will be seeing a lot more of her artistic expression in the years to come. I hope this is the case
