Jolene’s 99 Cents Store Shopping Trip 10/9

Great deals without coupons on brands I know!  Here are today’s finds at the 99 Cents Only Store: 1.   Nature Made Adult Gummies Vitamins, 60 ct.(!)2.   Beech Nut 100% Apple Juice, 32 oz.3.   Earthbound Farm Organic Power Greens, 5 oz.4.   Fresh Sweet Mini Peppers, 1 lb.5.   Danimals 4 pk.6.   Yoplait Greek 2X Protein Yogurt, 5.3 oz. (2/$1)7.   Pillsbury Crescent Seamless Dough, 8 oz.8.   Nabisco Grahams, 14.4 oz.9.   Ore Ida Sweet Potato Fries, 19 oz.

The Nature Made Adult Gummies retail for about $6.49, so finding them for $1 here is awesome!  My store had two varieties — the Vitamin D (best by Dec. 2012) & the Vitamin C (best by Oct. 2012).  To go along with the healthy theme, I got Organic Power Greens (a mix of spinach, chard, kale) to use in stir fries and soups … does anyone juice this, too?  I was attracted to the vivid colors of the Sweet Mini Peppers, and I bet they’re full of vitamins as well.

Baby juices can be pricey, so I thought the 32 oz. Beech Nut 100% Apple Juice was great!  Look for it either in the Beverage Aisle or the Baby Aisle.  When my kids were babies, I’d dilute their juice with water in order to reduce the sugar content & because I started that right from the beginning, they never noticed the difference!  It also stretched that jug of juice a little further!

That is so cheap for the mini peppers. Although we found we can grow them in our garden from the seeds..although they sometimes come out full size.

Jenelle, I admire anyone who grows veggies at home! Ever since Julia posted about sustainable living here it really got me thinking. I mean, I could actually plant the seeds from my peppers — instead of discarding the seeds — and get a plant yielding more peppers! Then I’d never have to buy peppers from the store = “Buy Once, Eat Forever” concept :)
I love the idea and want to learn.

A related story: I buy the Living Lettuce from the 99 Cent Store. It comes w/ roots attached. Well, my husband took the root part & stuck it in a pot. Now we have lettuce growing! Buy once, eat forever!

Also, if you don’t feel like starting from seed, my store is selling potted veggie plants. They had Spinach, Broccoli, Cabbage, Swiss Chard all about 4 inches tall. I am not a garden expert … Are those easy to grow??

      • Jenelle Case says

Yeah we have grown lots of stuff (not a 100 but its sorta hobby-ish/can give us some good stuff to eat too and share. We do tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, onions, carrots, cucumbers, blue berries, strawberries, apples, pears, variety of greens (spinach, etc), and some herbs as well. Found though artichokes don’t do well attract too many bugs!

Jenelle, truly inspiring! Any “hobby” that gives food & doesn’t require driving (gas prices!) is a keeper. Thanks for sharing food for thought, love it!

I was so excited to find 10ct Simply Eggo boxes with 4/13 expiration at my store today. We eat a ton of them in my house. They were in the case near the front that usually holds ice cream bars and popsicles for some reason (not in the freezer case next to the refrigerated section).
