Jolene’s 99 Cents Only Shopping Trip 3/5

99 cents store 3-5

Here are the latest frugal finds at the 99 Cents Only Stores:

1.   Fresh Seedless Mandarin Oranges, 2 lbs
2.   Artisan Lettuce, 4ct
3.   Activia Dairy Drink, 4pk of 7oz bottles (!)
4.   Gatorade Powder Packs, 8ct (yields 8qts)
5.   Progresso Recipe Starters, 18oz
6.   Wanchai Ferry Garlic Chicken Kit, 21.5oz
7.   White Navy Beans, 1 lb

My objective today was buying dried white beans in order to make a big batch of soup!  I have a ham bone left from a nice half-ham, and you can be sure I’ll squ-eeeeze every last bit of flavor from that bone by making Ham & Bean Soup.  Spring showers are predicated tomorrow, so a steaming savory soup + a crisp green salad is on my menu plan.  The salad will be lettuce, sliced Mandarin oranges, and sliced avocado. Frugal.  Easy.  Comforting.

Shoppers were going wild for Kraft Marshmallow Fluff! I asked a fellow shopper what the Fluff is good for?? She replied Fluff ‘n Peanut Butter Sandwiches (who knew?!). She also said the Fluff is good for making Rice Krispies Treats, instead of melting marshmallows (which to me, is the step I dislike b/it makes a mess). Anybody try it?

  2. Tamara says

I have only used the marshmallow creme before and it was for a recipe & you put the whole thing in, so not a messy process. But, I did just pin a hybrid marshmallow buttercream recipe on Pinterest which calls for FLUFF, so I hope there is some left when I get there. It is usually way more than a dollar!

    Hi Jolene & Julia!
Great finds this week. I wish I could find those Mandarin Oranges at my store. I didn’t see the Activia Drinks either. Boo!

I did find some amazing find this week, including 4.75 pound tubs of Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough! We also finally got in the large jugs of the Gold Peak Tea. Also, “Juice Box Style” Gatorade drinks for lunch boxes.

I make a great sweet dip for fruit mixing one tub of FLUFF and one block of cream cheese! Such a sweet treat :)

  5. Jessica says

I make a dip with the fluf and cream cheese(whipped) for fresh strawberries and pineapple. It’s a big hit!

  6. Rebecca says

We make the same dip for kids birthdays parties and people love it! I actually do one jar of fluff and one tub of whipped Strawberry cream cheese and serve with sliced strawberries, bananas and pineapple.
